Named after Alcatraz escapee Frank Lee Morris, Frank made a daring escape of his own, attracting national attention while demonstrating that cattle–and all farm animals–have an innate will to live free from harm. Frank was being transported to a live market in Queens, NY, where individuals can select live animals they’d like to bring home as meat. Frank, however, had other plans, and fled from the transport truck in search of greener pastures. Frank raced to nearby York College, seeking solace in its grassy fields, yet his tenure there was short-lived. After being rounded up by local authorities and taken to Animal Care & Control, our indomitable friend won the nation’s support and plans were made for a peaceful retirement at our Watkins Glen shelter. When his rescuers picked him up and escorted him to Sanctuary, Frank was finally free to live the life he had always dreamed of: safe, happy, and henceforth regarded as someone, not something.
